Scottie Pippen has turned the LeBron James comparison into a championships argument.
Appearing on the PBD Podcast, Pippen was asked whether he was the best all-around player in NBA history. The Hall of Famer answered from a team-success angle and put his six titles with the Chicago Bulls at the center of the case.
"My success as a team is more successful than LeBron. I got six rings," Pippen said, according to BasketNews.
The follow-up pushed the idea further. Asked whether an NBA owner looking for an all-around No. 1 option should choose him or James, Pippen questioned whether the priority should be individual awards or championships.
"Do you want individual accolades or do you want championships? Because I didn't chase mine," Pippen said.
It is a very Pippen answer: sharp, proud and certain to pull a reaction. The obvious counter is that James has been a clear franchise centerpiece for most of his career, while Pippen's six championships came beside Michael Jordan on one of the sport's defining dynasties.
That does not erase Pippen's greatness. It does make the comparison more complicated than ring count alone.
