Jaren Jackson Jr.

Jackson is an American center whose NBA career has been built on elite rim protection, perimeter shooting, and defensive versatility. Drafted fourth overall in 2018, he has become one of the most decorated defenders in the league, winning Defensive Player of the Year and making the All-Star team in 2023. He later moved to the Utah Jazz.

Born Jaren Walter Jackson Jr. on September 15, 1999, in Plainfield, New Jersey, he is the son of former NBA player Jaren Jackson Sr. He started his high school career at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, where he won two IHSAA state championships and averaged 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. He transferred to La Lumiere School for his senior year and was rated a top-ten national prospect by Scout.com, 247Sports, and ESPN. He committed to Michigan State and played in the McDonald's All-American Game.

At Michigan State, Jackson made an immediate defensive impact. He was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and All-Freshman Team, and earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors. He declared for the 2018 NBA draft and was considered a potential top-tier lottery selection.

The Memphis Grizzlies selected Jackson with the fourth overall pick. On March 29, 2019, he was shut down for the season with a deep thigh bruise. On December 13, 2019, he scored a career-high 43 points and tied a franchise record with nine three-pointers. In 2023, he was named to his first NBA All-Star team and won the Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the league in blocks per game for the second consecutive season.
