LaMelo Ball

Ball is an American guard who has developed into one of the most dynamic playmakers and scorers in the NBA since being drafted third overall in 2020. He has spent his entire professional career with the Charlotte Hornets, earning Rookie of the Year honors and an All-Star selection while becoming the face of the franchise.

Born LaMelo LaFrance Ball on August 22, 2001, in Anaheim, California, he is the son of LaVar and Tina Ball, both former college basketball players. He began playing basketball at age four with his older brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo. He attended Chino Hills High School, where as a freshman he averaged 16.4 points and 3.8 assists and helped the team win a state championship and a mythical national title with a 35-0 record.

Before his junior season, Ball left Chino Hills to sign with Prienai in Lithuania. In 2018, he played in the Junior Basketball Association, a league created by his father. He returned to high school as a senior at SPIRE Academy in Ohio, where he was a five-star recruit. He chose to forgo college and play for the Illawarra Hawks in Australia's NBL in 2019. His success there transformed him from a projected second-round pick to a top-three selection.

The Charlotte Hornets selected Ball with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021 and made his first All-Star team in 2022. His flashy passes, deep shooting range, and creative ball-handling have made him one of the most entertaining players in the league.
