Tre Jones

Jones is an American guard who reached the NBA through the 2020 draft after a decorated two-year career at Duke. An ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, he has established himself as a steady floor general with elite basketball IQ and defensive tenacity.

Born Tre Isiah Jones on January 8, 2000, in Apple Valley, Minnesota, he played high school basketball at Apple Valley High School, where he joined the varsity team as an eighth grader. He led Apple Valley to two Minnesota 4A state titles in 2015 and 2017 and averaged 23.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 7.5 assists as a senior. He was a two-time Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year and earned McDonald's All-American and Minnesota Mr. Basketball honors.

Jones committed to Duke on August 13, 2017. As a freshman, he averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds and played alongside Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish. He suffered a shoulder injury in January 2019 but returned after two games. He returned for his sophomore season and was named ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.8 steals.

The San Antonio Spurs selected Jones 41st overall in the 2020 NBA draft. He signed on November 27, 2020. On March 17, 2023, his brother Tyus recorded his first triple-double against Tre when San Antonio lost to Memphis. Sixteen days later, Tre matched his brother with a triple-double of 17 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds against Sacramento. On July 8, 2023, he re-signed with San Antonio on a two-year, $19 million contract.

On February 3, 2025, Jones was traded to the Chicago Bulls alongside Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, and a first-round pick in a three-team deal. On June 30, 2025, he agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract to return to Chicago.

Jones functions as a high-IQ point guard with elite defensive instincts, playmaking efficiency, and leadership beyond his years.
