Miles McBride

McBride is an American guard who has developed into a key rotation player for the New York Knicks after entering the NBA as a second-round pick in 2021. Known for his defensive tenacity, three-point shooting, and energy, he evolved from a bench prospect into a permanent fixture in the Knicks backcourt and won an NBA championship with the team in 2026.

Born Miles James McBride on September 8, 2000, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he attended Moeller High School, where he was a two-sport athlete playing basketball and football as a quarterback. He suffered a season-ending left foot injury during a football game as a junior but returned to help Moeller win the Division I state title. As a senior, he averaged 13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists and led Moeller to a 29-0 record and another state championship, the first undefeated season in its division since 1995. He committed to West Virginia as a three-star recruit.

At West Virginia, McBride made his debut on November 8, 2019, with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. As a freshman, he averaged 9.5 points and 2.4 rebounds and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals and earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors. In the NCAA tournament, he recorded a career-high 30 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a win over Morehead State. On April 2, 2021, he declared for the NBA draft.

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected McBride 36th overall in 2021 and traded him to the New York Knicks alongside Rokas Jokubaitis. He signed with the Knicks on August 6, 2021. After early stints in the G League, he earned a rotation spot and signed a three-year, $13 million extension on December 30, 2023. The trades of RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley opened more minutes, and McBride became a defensive mainstay. He won the NBA championship with the Knicks in 2026.

McBride is a defensive-minded guard with quick hands, lateral quickness, and a willingness to pressure opposing ball-handlers. Offensively, he has developed into a reliable three-point shooter and transition scorer.
