Mac McClung

McClung is an American guard who has built a unique professional career as a Slam Dunk Contest champion and G League star despite limited NBA rotation opportunities. Undrafted in 2021, he became the only player to win three straight NBA Slam Dunk Contests and earned multiple G League MVP awards while setting the league's all-time scoring record.

Born Matthew Ford McClung on January 6, 1999, in Gate City, Virginia, a small town of about 2,000 people, he initially played football before focusing on basketball in high school. He trained in a basement gym built by his parents and became known as an explosive dunker. As a junior at Gate City High School, he scored a career-high 64 points in a VHSL tournament game, the best scoring performance in Virginia public schools since 1984. He committed to Georgetown as a consensus three-star recruit.

McClung played one season at Georgetown, averaging 13.1 points and 2.0 assists before transferring to Texas Tech. With the Red Raiders, he averaged 15.5 points and 2.3 assists and helped the team reach the NCAA tournament. He declared for the 2021 NBA draft but went undrafted.

After going undrafted, McClung signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021 and later played for the Chicago Bulls. He spent time in the G League with the South Bay Lakers and Delaware Blue Coats, winning G League Rookie of the Year in 2022. He won the Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in 2023, 2024, and 2025, becoming the only player to win three consecutive titles. He was named G League MVP in 2024 and 2026 and holds the G League all-time scoring record.

McClung is an explosive scorer and athlete with elite dunking ability and shooting range. His game is built on scoring bursts, transition attacks, and highlight-reel athleticism. At the NBA level, he has functioned as a depth guard and two-way player, with his most significant impact coming in the G League and the Slam Dunk Contest.
