Baylor Scheierman

Scheierman is an American forward who entered the NBA with the defending champion Boston Celtics after a decorated five-year college career that spanned South Dakota State and Creighton. Drafted 30th overall in 2024, he arrived in the league as an experienced, versatile wing with a proven three-level scoring ability and a reputation as one of the most productive players in Summit League history. He has shown flashes of scoring potential during his rookie season, including a 30-point career high in April 2026.

Born on September 26, 2000, in Aurora, Nebraska, Scheierman attended Aurora High School and was a four-sport athlete in basketball, football, baseball, and golf. As a junior, he averaged 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists in basketball. As a senior quarterback, he threw for 3,942 yards and a Nebraska state-record 59 touchdowns, leading the Huskies to a Class C state championship. He also averaged 22.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 6.5 assists as a senior on the basketball court and led Aurora to the state tournament. In November 2017, he committed to South Dakota State, citing the family atmosphere.

As a freshman at South Dakota State, Scheierman averaged six points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor. He spent the summer improving his outside shooting. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, was named first-team All-Summit League, and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer in a 77–74 win over Washington State. As a junior, he was named Summit League Player of the Year after averaging 16.2 points while leading the conference in rebounding at 7.8 and assists at 4.5, shooting 51 percent from the field.

After his junior season, Scheierman declared for the 2022 NBA draft while maintaining collegiate eligibility and also entered the transfer portal. On May 3, 2022, he committed to Creighton while still in the draft, but withdrew on May 24. As a senior at Creighton, he averaged 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists and helped the Bluejays reach the Elite Eight. He utilized an additional COVID-19 eligibility year and returned for a fifth season. In his fifth year, he averaged a career-high 18.5 points, earned Third-Team All-American honors, First-Team All-Big East, and led Creighton to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Boston Celtics selected Scheierman with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Analysts praised the fit, noting his experience and versatility as assets for a team defending its title. He signed with Boston on July 6 and spent portions of his rookie season with the Maine Celtics. On March 6, 2025, he played 30 minutes for the first time, scoring 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists in a win over Philadelphia. On March 18, he scored a then-career-high 20 points with three rebounds and one assist in a win over Brooklyn. On April 12, 2026, he set a new career-high with 30 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a 113–108 victory over Orlando.

Scheierman is a versatile forward with a high basketball IQ, a reliable outside shot, and a willingness to rebound from the wing. His college numbers reflected a player who could score, pass, and crash the glass in equal measure. He operates comfortably in catch-and-shoot situations, attacks closeouts, and uses his size to finish inside. At the NBA level, his role has been as a developmental wing, with his outside shooting and positional versatility offering the clearest path to consistent rotation minutes. His defensive footwork and lateral quickness continue to improve against NBA-level athletes.

Scheierman enters the 2025–26 season with the Boston Celtics after a rookie year that included assignments to the Maine Celtics, a 30-minute breakout against Philadelphia, a 20-point game against Brooklyn, and a 30-point career high against Orlando. His résumé spans a Nebraska state football championship, Summit League Player of the Year, a Creighton Elite Eight run, a COVID-fifth-year surge, Third-Team All-American recognition, and a first-round draft selection by the defending NBA champions.
