About Jahmir Young

Young is an American guard who entered the NBA through a two-way contract with the Miami Heat in October 2025 and converted to a standard two-year deal in April 2026. His path included four seasons at Charlotte, a graduate year at Maryland, and brief stops with Denver, the Grand Rapids Gold, and Chicago before landing in Miami.

Born on October 7, 2000, Young attended St. Mary—s Ryken High School in Leonardtown, Maryland, for two years before transferring to DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, as a junior. At DeMatha, he played alongside Hunter Dickinson, Justin Moore, Earl Timberlake, and Tyrell Ward. He averaged 11.7 points and helped the team win the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. On the AAU circuit, he played for Team Takeover and won a Peach Jam title. As a senior, he earned All-Conference honors and was ranked a top-10 senior in Maryland. A three-star recruit, he committed to Charlotte over Boston College, Hofstra, Old Dominion, and La Salle.

As a Charlotte freshman, Young averaged 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists and was named Third Team All-Conference USA and Freshman of the Year. He was an eight-time C-USA Freshman of the Week honoree, becoming the fourth player in league history to achieve that mark. As a sophomore, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists and earned First Team All-C-USA honors. As a junior, he repeated as First Team All-C-USA while averaging 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. He scored a career-high 30 points against Florida Atlantic on January 17, 2022, and declared for the draft before entering the transfer portal.

On April 27, 2022, Young transferred to Maryland and maintained his professional options while completing his eligibility. He led the program—s renewal under first-year head coach Kevin Willard and was named Second Team All-Big Ten by both coaches and media in 2023.

After going undrafted in 2024, Young joined the Denver Nuggets Summer League and signed with Denver on July 31, but was waived on October 8. He joined the Grand Rapids Gold on October 28. On February 19, 2025, he signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls and made his NBA debut on March 4 against Cleveland, recording one rebound and one assist. The Bulls waived him on July 20, 2025.

The Miami Heat signed Young to an Exhibit 10 contract on August 20, 2025, and converted it to a two-way deal on October 18. On April 10, 2026, Miami signed him to a two-year standard contract after releasing Terry Rozier.

Young is a score-first guard with deep shooting range and pick-and-roll craft. At Charlotte, he demonstrated the ability to lead a mid-major offense and win conference honors at every level. In the NBA, he has functioned as a depth guard capable of providing offensive spark in limited minutes.

Young is under contract with the Miami Heat after converting from a two-way deal to a standard contract in April 2026. His transition from undrafted free agent to guaranteed NBA roster spot reflects persistence across multiple organizations and leagues.
