Andersson Garcia

Garcia is a Dominican forward who reached the G League after a decorated college career at Texas A&M and a Rookie of the Year campaign in his home country. Known for rebounding intensity and defensive versatility, he was nicknamed the Dominican Dennis Rodman by his college coach. He also earned a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz in 2026, making his first NBA start in a loss to Sacramento.

Born on August 23, 2000, in Moca, Dominican Republic, Garcia grew up playing baseball more than basketball. He abandoned baseball as a child after developing a fear of fast pitches. A local coach invited him to play in a tournament at age 11, and he shifted his focus to basketball from that point forward. After being scouted at a basketball camp in the Dominican Republic, he moved to the United States and attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Garcia signed with Mississippi State, drawn by a connection with assistant coach Korey McCray. After his time with the Bulldogs, he transferred to Texas A&M, where head coach Buzz Williams oversaw his development into a defensive-minded force. In the 2023–24 season, Garcia became the only Power Five player to reach the statistical thresholds of 300 rebounds, 200 points, 50 assists, 40 steals, and 20 blocks. He set the Texas A&M single-season rebounding record and earned his Rodman-inspired nickname from Williams.

After completing his college eligibility, Garcia returned to the Dominican Republic and joined the Marineros de Puerto Plata of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto. In the 2025 season, he was named the league's Rookie of the Year, validating his decision to compete professionally in his home country before pursuing a North American contract. His success with the Marineros drew attention from NBA G League scouts.

In 2025, Garcia signed with the Mexico City Capitanes for the 2025–26 G League season, reuniting him with former Texas A&M teammate Wade Taylor IV. On March 11, 2026, the Utah Jazz signed him to a 10-day contract. Four days later, on March 15, he made his first career NBA start, recording three points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 111–116 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
