About Nikola Jokic

Jokic is a Serbian center widely regarded as one of the greatest players and centers in basketball history. Drafted 41st overall in 2014, he has transformed the center position with his elite passing, scoring, and basketball IQ, winning three NBA MVP awards and leading the Denver Nuggets to their first-ever championship in 2023. He is often considered the greatest draft steal in NBA history.

Born Nikola Jokic on February 19, 1995, in Sombor, Serbia, he grew up in a two-bedroom apartment with his two older brothers, parents, and grandmother. His father was an agricultural engineer. Jokic developed a love of basketball playing with his brothers, Strahinja and Nemanja, who were a decade older. Nemanja played college basketball for Detroit Mercy and C.W. Post. The brothers are friends with former NBA player Darko Milicic. Jokic also loved harness racing as a child.

Jokic played youth basketball for Vojvodina Srbijagas and drew attention with index ratings greater than 50 in consecutive games. In December 2012, he signed with Mega Vizura and appeared in five Serbian League games as a 17-year-old. In the 2013-14 season, he averaged 11.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the Adriatic League.

The Denver Nuggets selected Jokic with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2016. He received his first All-Star and All-NBA First Team selections in 2019 while leading Denver to the Western Conference Semifinals. In the 2022-23 season, he won NBA Finals MVP after leading the Nuggets to their first NBA championship. He won MVP again in 2024. He holds the record for fastest triple-double (14 minutes, 33 seconds) and is the only player with a 30-point, 20-rebound, 20-assist game.

Jokic is a generational offensive talent with elite court vision, passing precision, and scoring efficiency. He operates as a point center, orchestrating the offense from the post and elbow. His step-back jumper, floater, and post moves are nearly unstoppable. Defensively, he uses positioning and intelligence to compensate for limited athleticism. His combination of skill, IQ, and unselfishness has redefined the center position.
