Moussa Diabate

Diabaté is a French center who entered the NBA as a second-round pick in 2022 after a decorated prep career and a single season at the University of Michigan. Known for his athleticism, rebounding, and defensive potential, he has developed as a rotation big with the Charlotte Hornets.

Born on January 21, 2002, in Paris, France, Diabaté is the son of Malian and Guinean parents. He started playing basketball at age 12 with Sporting Club Maccabi de Paris and later competed for Saint Charles de Charenton Saint Maurice. At age 14, he moved to the United States to advance his basketball career, initially joining Montverde Academy in Florida.

Diabaté played for Florida Preparatory Academy as a freshman, then transferred to DME Academy in Daytona Beach for his sophomore season, where he averaged 17.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists and grabbed 30 rebounds in a single game. For his junior season, he transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He averaged 14.1 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior and was selected to the McDonald's All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic rosters.

Diabaté committed to Michigan on November 9, 2020, over offers from Arizona, Kentucky, and Memphis. As a freshman, he averaged 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. On February 20, 2022, he was involved in a postgame melee against Wisconsin and was suspended one game. On April 25, 2022, he declared for the NBA draft while maintaining eligibility, but on June 1, he announced he would remain in the draft.

The Los Angeles Clippers selected Diabaté with the 43rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He signed a two-way contract and spent time between the parent roster and the Ontario Clippers of the G League. He later joined the Charlotte Hornets, where he has continued to develop as a rotation big.

Diabaté is an athletic center with mobility, rebounding instincts, and defensive versatility. His game is built on rim running, putbacks, and shot-blocking. He has shown flashes of face-up scoring and mid-range touch but remains primarily an energy big who provides interior presence and transition finishing. His development focus centers on offensive polish and defensive positioning.
