Kristaps Porzingis

Porzingis is a Latvian center whose NBA career has spanned multiple franchises since he was drafted fourth overall in 2015. Known for his unique combination of size, shooting, and shot-blocking, he has played for the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and Atlanta Hawks.

Born Kristaps Porzingis on August 2, 1995, in Liepaja, Latvia, he began playing basketball at age six. His older brother Janis, a professional player in Europe, took him to offseason training sessions. He played in youth competitions with BK Liepajas Lauvas until age 15, when Baloncesto Sevilla called him for a tryout. He signed with Sevilla in 2010, overcame anemia, and debuted for the senior team in January 2012.

Porzingis won the EuroCup Basketball Rising Star award in 2015, becoming the youngest recipient at age 19. He declared for the 2015 NBA draft, and the New York Knicks selected him with the fourth overall pick. He was named an All-Star in 2018 but was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2019 due to disagreements with the front office.
